GreenCape is pleased to announce the appointment of our new HR Administrator, Lerdean Maggott.
Tell us about your professional background and how it relates to your role at GreenCape?
I studied and graduated with a National Diploma in Human Resources many years ago. I spent a bulk of my career at Sanlam Private Equity where I started as a Personal Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer.
Later I moved to the ‘back office’ because I wanted to do something more challenging. I was eventually promoted to Administration Manager and spent 22 years at Sanlam before resigning in 2019.
What has been your favourite thing about GreenCape thus far?
I love the culture; it seems like a very inclusive culture. I came from a small team and we were very close so everyone got involved. This is what I am picking up at GreenCape and I’m happily used to it.
Which projects are you currently working on since your started working for GreenCape?
I am assisting Jonel, HR Officer at GreenCape, with contracts index. We are assessing contracts to see whether everything is on par. She is guiding me through the steps because it is quite a lot to cover. We are also reviewing processes. In between I am getting to know GreenCapers by connecting via virtual meetings.
Why do you do what you do?
I have always wanted to go back to HR, but because I was so settled at Sanlam and enjoyed my job in private equity, it was not a goal for me anymore. When I left Sanlam I had to relook at everything. I then decided to take about a year off work. Unfortunately for me Covid happened. There were not many job opportunities until I encountered this post. I believe this is the ideal role for me to get back into HR.
What impact do you hope to achieve?
I started with my Bachelor’s Degree but have not yet completed it, which is something I want to do. I have always struggled to decide which major to select along with my Business Administration Degree. However, now that I am back in HR, I can choose HR as my major.
With regards to GreenCape overall, I feel like the team is very inclusive and I believe that once I have settled, I will run with a few projects. I want to make sure that the systems and processes are efficient and everyone is at ease with using them. That will be my value-add.
What do you get up to in your spare time?
I like reading, camping and picnics. My favourite places are the wine routes because there are many activities for children along the way. On weekends I like to spend time with my family which includes my husband and two children.
