Home 5 News 5 The Innovation Hub: Call for Proposals

26 October 2016

The Innovation Hub Management Company (SOC) Ltd, a subsidiary of the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (“GGDA”), has established the Climate Innovation Centre (“CIC”). The CIC’s mandate is to support innovators, entrepreneurs and SMMEs in developing cutting-edge technologies and business models to provide climate change and sustainable environmental solutions to address local challenges.

A specific focus of the CIC is the fostering of low-carbon technologies which are inclusive in nature or, at least, have a demonstrable potential for mass deployment especially for the low-income strata of the South African population, primarily in the Gauteng Province. The CIC seeks to consolidate the Gauteng Province’s position as the economic engine of South Africa and leader in creating sustainable climate change mitigation and adaptation pathways, in support of the provincial and national Government’s Climate Change commitments.

The range of services and support available from the CIC for qualifying projects include: Financial support, technical and business advisory and mentoring, proof of concept funding and links to other local and international financing institutions, as well as incubation at The Innovation Hub.

Accordingly, the CIC is hereby requesting proposals from entrepreneurs, SMMEs, community-based organisations, consortia of relevant parties, and project developers for innovative, sustainable and commercially viable climate change/green economy projects. The projects may comprise solutions on any one of the following programmes:

• Low-carbon/Alternative Energy

• Cleaner/Alternative Modes of Transport

• Waste to Energy/Waste Management

• Energy Demand Side Management and Monitoring

• Water Management/Water Security

The projects must not be at a conceptual stage but must be demonstrably practical, measurable, technically and financially feasible. Priority will be given to projects with a demonstrable potential for mass deployment especially for the low-income strata of the SA population.
